Arts in the School Program Features Guys with Guitars
Recognized as a national and international, acoustic guitarist, Doug Wood presented a music workshop to first and second grade students at West Elementary School during his visit to town for a concert. Students were engaged in the diverse variety of music from finger-style to lively world rhythms. “Mr. Wood stressed the idea of getting in touch with how music made the kids feel and encouraged them to create their own songs at home,” said Kathy Ewing, the music teacher at West Elementary School.
Currently, Wood is on tour to promote his new album entitled, “Dreamcatcher.” This event was made possible in part with a grant from the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education in conjunction with the Matthews Opera House and Arts Center. The SFPE worked in conjunction with the Spearfish Arts Center to bring this artist to the school.
