About us
The students of our great schools depend on community support to build on our foundation.
With public education facing increasing challenges, the need for public and private sectors of our community to enhance the educational opportunities in our public schools is greater than ever. SFPE works closely with, but independently from, the Spearfish School District. The goal of this partnership is to allow members of our community to invest in the success of any and all of the classrooms, programs, and activities of the Spearfish Schools.
Help us build on the foundation of great schools
SFPE allows businesses, individuals and civic and community organizations to invest their time and resources for the benefit of public education in our hometown. Please join us in investing in the success of Spearfish’s schools. Take this chance to take the lead for a great future for our children and our community.
Our History
The Spearfish Foundation for Public Education was charted in 2001 and is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit tax exempt organization. The Foundation is governed by a twelve member board of directors. The Foundation is a separate legal entity from the Spearfish School District. When Spearfish Public Schools were faced with significant financial difficulties, the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education was founded to supplement funding for programs lost due to budget cuts and to seek to make our public schools the best they could be.
It was established to provide educational opportunities for students and staff of the Spearfish School District beyond what is provided by the school’s budget. In subsequent years, the Foundation has met this challenge with significant investment in retaining successful programs and funding the creation of new academic opportunities and enrichments. Funds provided by the Foundation have grown from $5,000 to over $90,000 per year in the 2020-2021 school year.
