SMS students to perform at Matthews Opera House
For the second evening in a row, a total of 33 Spearfish Middle School students will be performing a one-act play at the Matthews Opera House.
Thanks to the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education, the drama club has been revived, and area residents are encouraged to attend the production to be held at 7 p.m. tonight (April 9, 2013). Free will donations will be accepted at the door.
Cory Heidelberger, a French teacher, wrote the one-act play entitled “Constellation” this winter in order to provide drama students with as many educational acting challenges as possible. “The play is a series of vignettes, some funny, some serious, about stars, students, and life in middle school,” he said, noting that he appreciates the staff at the Matthews Opera House and Arts Center for lending their performance space and assisting with publicity for the show.
Sian Young the executive director of the Matthews Opera House and Arts Center in Spearfish said that it’s so important that students are given this type of exposure to the arts in their transitional years.
