The Spearfish Foundation for Public Education was chartered in 2001. It is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit tax exempt organization. The Foundation is governed by a ten member board of directors. The Foundation is a separate legal entity from the SpearfishSchool District. When Spearfish Public Schools were faced with significant financial difficulties, the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education was founded to supplement funding for programs lost due to budget cuts and to seek to make our public schools the best they could be. It was established to provide educational opportunities for students and staff of the Spearfish School District beyond what is provided by the school’s budget.
